1.        Minutes of September meeting

Proposed true record Councillor Ray Mitchell, seconded Councillor George Brumby.

2.        Matters Arising

Andrew Lyle has kindly cut the hedge round the playing field at no cost to the village. A letter of thanks to be sent.

The Chairman purchased a “Strictly no dogs or horses on the field” sign at a cost of £19.00 + VAT. It has now been fixed to the gate.

The parish was successful in being granted 104 hedging plants and 12 trees from the Trees for Parishes scheme. They are to be collected from Horncastle in mid January 2005.

A Harvest Festival was held on Sunday 19th September 2004 in St Mary’s Church followed by a harvest supper in the Viking Centre. This proved so popular that a limit had to be put on the sale of tickets, the room being full to capacity.

3.        Highways

A report of sheep on the road near Brants.

The pavement light (No 8) near the telephone box is not working. Lighting department has been informed and the repair is to be carried out on 22nd November 2004.

There are a number of holes in Normanby Top Road and the road between Bunny Hill Farm and the level crossing. The Chairman will contact highways.

Nothing to report

5.        Neighbourhood Watch

The Chairman hopes to attend the next meeting on Thursday 25th November 2004 at Gainsborough Police Station. If anyone else interested please contact the Chairman.

6.        Planning

Corner Farmhouse has been given approval to extend the garage.

Letter to be sent to WLDC re the lack of planning permission for the garage on the Cherry Lea car park

7.        Treasurer's Report

A balance of £1804.92 was reported.

The precept for next year to be set at £2300, proposed Councillor Ray Mitchell, seconded Councillor George Brumby.

8.        Playground

The 100 Club have not yet been successful in obtaining the grant from Lincolnshire Community Fund.

The provision of a BMX ramp/jumps was discussed.

The Chairman asked for photographs of the work already carried out in the playing field for display on the Village Hall notice board.

9.        Bus Shelter

Nothing to report.

10.    Correspondence

A letter had been received form Elizabeth Holmes regarding the contribution towards the cost of maintenance of the churchyard. A donation of £125 had been made in March 2004 for the previous year. It was proposed that a similar donation of £125 be made for this year.

11.    Village Hall

Councillor George Brumby to investigate increased use of the Village Hall.

Refurbishment of the Village Hall kitchen was discussed and it was proposed that this should be made the major project for 2005/2006.

The formation of a Village Hall committee is to be investigated. Amy Dearlove to be contacted by the Parish Clerk.

12.    Village Activities

A Christmas Tea on Saturday 11th December 2004 was suggested. The Chairman will contact Sue Griffin to organise.

Carol Service to be held on 19th December 2004 in St Mary’s Church.

Ian Hall is to give a falconry display in the church in Feb/March. Exact date to be fixed later.

The Claxby Open Gardens afternoon has been set for Sunday 19th June 2005.

13.    Any Other Business

A quantity of conifer shreddings has been spread on Boggle Lane to allow access to the boardwalk.

In the early hours of 20th September 2004 an electrical fault is believed to have caused the death of 700 piglets at Bunny Hill Farm, Claxby (formally Cotswold Pigs). Fifteen fire-fighters attended with three appliances from Binbrook, Market Rasen and Caistor.
