Minutes of the Regular Parish Council Meeting

Held in the Village Hall on Tuesday 20th September 2005 @ 7:30pm

There was one member of the public in attendance

 

Due to the resignation of Councillor Mary Sharp another councillor is required. Mrs Ann Hill of Apple Tree Cottage, Mulberry Road has applied for the vacancy that exists. Mrs Hill was unopposed after the statutory 14 days notice of vacancy.

 

Proposal that Mrs Hill be co-opted onto the Parish Council.  Proposed Councillor Shane Bennett, seconded Councillor Wendy Roe. All in favour.

 

The proposal was carried unanimously and the Chairman welcomed Mrs Hill as a councillor.

 

1. Minutes of July meeting

 

Proposed true record Councillor Shane Bennett, seconded Councillor George Brumby.

 

2. Matters Arising

 

Boggle Lane footpath. The Bridleway and Footpath Officer paid a site visit to Boggle Lane and authorised the work to make the footpath safer.  This has now been completed. A letter has been sent from Mrs Johnson to the Parish Council expressing grateful thanks in getting the work done and making the footpath a safe and pleasant place to walk.

 

Telephone kiosk light. BT said they would attend to the light next time they have someone in the area.

 
3. Highways


The potholes in the road along Park Road have been repaired.

 

Street light No 12 Corner Farmhouse has been reported as not working.

 

Street light No 1 is also not working due to being hit by the hedge cutter and twisted around sideways.

 

Highways could not find any holes to fill in near Corner Farmhouse.

4. Police Report

 

On Saturday 27th August three youths were seen and heard on the playing field causing damage to the portacabin by kicking the door and breaking the lock off. Fortunately Councillor Ray Mitchell saw these youths on the field with a blue quad bike and was able to take photographs. This incident has been reported to the police with the photograph for possible identification and a view to criminal damage charges, enquiries are ongoing.

 

5. Neighbourhood Watch


Nothing to report.

 

6. Planning

 

A special planning meeting was held on 16th August 2005 to discuss an application for fishing ponds etc to be built near the level crossing on Pelham Road. A number of points were raised and these were forwarded to WLDC Planning Department.

 

7. Treasurer's Report

 

Balance of £6,423.59 was reported.

 

8. Playground

 

The Parish Council has been successful in obtaining a grant of £5,000 from Awards for All.

 

The RoSPA report was discussed. No remedial work is required at this time.

 

The basketball hoop needs repairing.

 

The bare areas of ground need re-seeding in the autumn.

 

A pony charity at Barnetby is interested in removing the portacabin in the field at their expense if we are prepared to give it to them. We are still awaiting a reply.

 

John Brant declined the opportunity to cut the hedge around the playing filed. The Chairman to contact Andrew Lyle for a price.

 

9. Correspondence

 

Letter from Mrs E. Johnson re Boggle Lane (see item 2 above).

 

WLDC have offered to supply bin bags, gloves, etc if required for tidying the village for such events as the Open Gardens.

10. Village Hall

 

Amy Nicholl on maternity leave, Grenville Jackson is now dealing with setting up a village hall committee.

 

Insurance cost of £514.69 to include the new items of equipment in the playing field.

 

11. Village Activities

 

A Harvest supper was held on Sunday 18th September 2005 in the Viking Centre. All tickets were sold and the centre was full to capacity. A total of £314 (£219 from ticket sales and £95 from the raffle) was raised towards the church restoration.

 

12. Any Other Business

 

A number of points were raised and discussed.

-         cars being parked on the pavement at various places in the village

-         gap in the playing field hedge

-         hedge trimming on Mulberry road requires a visit from the road sweeper

-         there are some loose boards on the Park Road level crossing

-         the width of road near Lyle’s farm entrance is being reduced by lorries turning

-         newsletter to be reintroduced

-         possibility of a Christmas party in the village hall
